wooby's site

html, part 1

introduction, or, “why am i writing this?”

as the internet flies forward into the 2020s and beyond, many of its users are finding the normal sites they frequent seemingly crumbling apart. indeed, the heyday of “the web 2.0” seems to be over as companies find the websites they spend so much to maintain are not at all profitable, despite repeated attempts to monetize every last feature of their products. this leaves most of us users in a weird, alienated state - lots of sites have vanished, and nothing that remains quite feels stable.

there’s not a great replacement for what we have right now, or what we used to have. as mentioned, large websites such as twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. are costly to maintain and provide almost no monetary value to their proprietors. but stepping away from the familiar for most, there is something that we can do right now.

what’s a website??

no, i promise, this is a useful question! a website is simply a collection of pages linked to other pages, bundled under a single domain.
